Looking for truth in a uteful of lies

KEVIN Rudd's future hinges on whether an email allegedly from his economic adviser to Treasury asking it to help the PM's car dealer friend is a fake or genuine. Rudd last night staked his credibility on the document not being genuine. He stuck to his parliamentary denial this month that neither he nor his office had made representations for John Grant, a supporter who generously gives him a ute for his electorate work. Treasury official Godwin Grech, who runs the scheme, thinks he saw such an email from Andrew Charlton, although yesterday he couldn't be absolutely sure. Searches have turned up no trace of it.
